Workshop for Large-Scale Research Data
Storage, Analysis, and Sharing
Wednesday, May 27th | 9:00am–5:00pm | Mt Washington campus, 6225 Smith Ave.
Join us—the Institute for Data-Intensive Engineering and Science (IDIES)—on Wednesday, May 27 for a workshop on the storage, analysis, and sharing of large-scale research data.
This meeting builds on our 2022 Workshop for Large-Scale Scientific Research Imaging, which launched the Scientific Software Engineering Center (SSEC) in partnership with Schmidt Sciences’ Virtual Institute for Scientific Software (VISS). Speakers at that workshop emphasized that common considerations in working with scalable, big data apply across all research domains that rely on scientific imaging. In this upcoming meeting, we will follow up to explore how IDIES can help address both new and persistent challenges faced by researchers working with large-scale research data.
WHY THIS WORKSHOP MATTERS The insights gathered from this event will directly inform IDIES’s planning for Johns Hopkins’ future data center infrastructure. This is intended to be a gathering of researchers from across disciplines—life sciences, STEM, humanities, and beyond—selected to represent the breadth of large-scale data use at Hopkins. Your experience and perspective will help shape the future of research computing at our institution.
FORMAT The first half of the day will be dedicated to ~15-minute presentations by invited Johns Hopkins researchers representing all areas of study. The second half of the day will be devoted to discussion sessions regarding the future of research data storage, analysis, and sharing at Johns Hopkins.
Light breakfast, lunch and cocktail fare will be provided. Please note any dietary restrictions during registration.
LOCATION The workshop will be held at 6225 Smith Ave., Tower B, Terrace-level, Lecture room 08 (through the Student lounge)
PARKING Parking passes will be available on request. Please indicate during registration if you will need a parking pass.
