Los Alamos National Lab’s Dr. Frank Alexander and IDIES’ Charles Meneveau are guest editors of a special issue on Open Simulation Laboratories in Computing in Science & Engineering (CiSE) magazine.

The goal of this special issue is to explore recent developments in the area of Open Simulation Laboratories. This approach might be based on a large data-set generated by a high-resolution simulation of a physical system supplemented with associated analysis tools.

The approach allows individual researchers and teams not involved with the generation of the data to carry out analysis and offers a lower barrier of entry to HPC simulations for theorists, students, and all non-experts in HPC. It permits rapid hypothesis testing and exploration as well as being a valuable tool for teaching.

Scientists and engineers are invited to submit original papers in this area. Deadline for submission is end of January, 2015.
